Ideas for magazine adverts

To stick with the bands usual simple style and colour schemes we are putting very little text on our magazine advert. We believe that the picture that we are going to use will speak for itself and wont need a lot of text and detail. adverts are used to make and impreesion and use of too much text will only bore the reader of the magazine.

Also because the advert is in a magazine, It needs to instantly catch the eye so a picture that will stand out will be much more effective for a magazine advert because the reader of a magazine does not read a magazine to look at the advert, they read it for the contents so we need to make and advert that is as appealing to the eye as possible.

reasearch into magazine adverts

Gwen Stefani magazine advert analysis
This is a magazine advert for Gwen Stefani's album 'love.angel.music.baby'. The main picture covers the whole background and Gwen Stefani is seen to be the most important figure in the advert. The whole mise-en-scene of the picture is very regal and extravengant with many colours and effects being used which creates an image of grandness and fantasy. Her pale skin and clothing helps to emphasise her bright lipstick and dark eye make-up which brings the eyes attention straight to her face so that she is the first thing that you see when looking at the advert. This is very effective becuse she is such a recognisable face that her fans and anyone who follows celebrity news.

The font used is very elaborate to fit with the regal theme and pulls the whole advert togetherand is very well structured.

The colour scheme is red, white, black, gold and red which again are very regal and fit with the theme perfectly and the general feel of this advert is very ongoing with her image and how people see her.

Another ingeniousfeature of this advert is that the main background picture is a zoomed in image of her album cover image so that even if the reader did not look at the text on the advert they would be able to identify which album is hers in a music shop. This way of promoting and advertising the album is very effective and we are thinking of adopting this technique for our own Digipak.

Digipak ideas

For the digipak, we have decided to stay very true to the bands own album cover for 'only by the night'. We believe that it is vital for the digipak to be instantly recognised in conjunction with the origional album and need to make sure that colours, font and images used match with the origional album cover. We have chosen to do this so that die hard fans are able to identify the digipak with the album and also helps us with are design as it means that we have a ready made colour scheme and idea that will reflect the true nature of the band and their image.

Front cover

For the front cover we will be keeping it very simple. All that we are including on the front cover is the bands name, the title of the album and a picture of the band or a logo.

Back

List of songs which are featured on the album and a mention of what is on the DVD. Also put on a barcode and price. Include small picture of the band.

Inside 1

A short biography of the band. Make sure that facts and figures are included to show the band at its best. Include band name and title of the album.

Inside 2

Bold statements. Possibly quotes from fans who we have tested the didgipak out on and maybe some reviews of the band from reputable sources

research on existing Digipaks

Oasis digipak analysis

This existing Digipak is ideal for me to analyse as the band it features is a very similar genre to the band that we have chosen to make a Digipak for (along with a music video and a magazine advert).

The design is very simple and plain which helps us to identify the various codes and conventions that similar types of bands use when making a Digipak. There is a colour theme running throughout the Digipak which really helps to pull the whole of the case together. Seeing this constant colour scheme throughout inspired us to keep our digipak true to the Kings Of Leon's album 'Only By the Night' album sleeve which uses red, white and black for their album design. We have also decided that in order to tie the whole project together we need to ensure that the digipak and magazine advert are very similar as with other band campaigns when promoting an album have done, so that the campain is instantly recognised as ours.

The Oasis Digipak is an acoustic special featuring their greatest hits which not only appeals to oasis fans but also appeals to fans of acoustic music who may not have heard any of Oasis' songs before. This is a very good idea to target multiple markets which have broad fan bases and has given us the idea to feature some live/acoustic performances by the band so that the Digipak appeals to a wider audience.

The front cover is very simple and ties in with the title of the album so that when you initially see the image you instantly know what genre of music the album includes. It also very simple which is very typical of this genre. The font used on the Digipak is very run of the mill and again, very simple.

The entirety of this Digipak is very well made and put together with the staple of the Digipak being the colour scheme and layout.
